1. 7 January 2007 : Workshop on Growth Failure and Puberty Related Disorders : This program was held in the Indian Science Congress Association Hall. 150 delegates had attended. The main speaker was Prof. Martin O Savage of UK, Dr Kaushik Banerjee from Whipcross Hospital, UK, Prof Subhankar Choudhury, Prof and Head, Dept of Endocrinology, SSKM Hospital and IPGME&R, Kolkata and Dr Subrata Dey, Pediatric Endocrinologist of Institute of Child Health, Kolkata were the other faculty. Prof. Apurba Ghosh, Director, Institute of Child Health, Kolkata had organized this Scientific Program.
2. 7-11 January 2007 : PEDICON 2007 Mumbai – Many faculty from West Bengal had participated in the Scientific Programs of PEDICON 2007 namely, Dr Apurba Ghosh, Dr Ritabrata Kundu, Dr Tapan Kr Ghosh, Dr Nupur Ganguly, Dr Monjori Mitra, Dr Debasis Biswas, Dr Sukanta Chatterjee, Dr Ranjana Chatterjee, Dr Gautam Ghosh, Dr Rafiqul Rahaman, Dr Subhasis Chakraborty and many others.

4. 25 January 2007 : First Monthly Clinical Meeting 2007
– This program was organized in the Department of Pediatrics of Calcutta
Medical Research Institute on 25 January 2007. Four long cases and 4 short
cases were presented by various faculty of that Institute.
5. 27 January 2007 : Workshop on Psychiatry – This program was organized in the Seminar room of Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan Hospital, Kolkata. Dr Sachin Sankar and Dr Shila Biswas, both from UK attended this program as faculty as the representative of Royal Society of Psychiatry, UK.Local faculty including Dr J R Ram had also participated. 1. 3 February 2007 : 21st Dr K C Chaudhuri Memorial Oration
– Dr D Vidyasagar, University of Illinois, Chicago had delivered this
21st Dr K C Chaudhuri Memorial Oration in Asutosh Hall, Indian Museum, Kolkata.
More than 200 delegates had attended this program.
Dr D Vidyasagar had also participated in interactive session on Hot current
topic in Neonatology in US namely, HIE, Cool Cap, Nitric Oxide Therapy etc.
2. 14 February 2007 : CME on Communicartion s Skills, Ethical Challenges and Evidence Based Decision Making in Pediatric Practice – This unique program was held in IPGME&R and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata. Dr Rajesh Mondal, Dr Madhumita Nandy, Dr Supratim Dutta, Dr Tapas Sabui, Prof. Apurba Ghosh, Prof Dilip Mukherjee and Prof. Atul Kr Gupta had participated as faculty.
3. 16 February 2007 : Seminar on Brain Cooling
in HIE in Neonates.
Dr Subrata Sarkar, Department of Pedaitrics, Michigan University, USA had
delivered a long lecture on the “Role of Brain Cooling in HIE in Neonates”
and highlighted the studies undertaken in their Institute. His lecture lasted
for about a period of one hour, which was followed by lots of questions. This
program was held in the Seminar Room, NRS Medical College, Kolkata.

5. 18 February 2007 : Workshop on Neonatal Intensive Care – Basic Approach This program was held in the Auditorium of Park Children Centre for Treatment and Research and was attended by 87 delegates. Dr. Praveen Khilnanai , Pediatric Intensivist in Charge , Max Healthcare Hospital , New Delhi, Dr. Arun Singh, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, SSKM hospital & Neonatal ICU incharge, Dr. B. Goswami , Perinatologist, Park Clinic and Dr. Manas bagchi, Dr. Moushumi Mukherjee, Dr. Sugato banerjee, Dr. Sudip Chatterjee, Dr. Goutam Das , Dr. Sabayachi Mukherjee, Dr. B. K. Manocha, Dr. Krishna Sen, Dr. Gautam Ghosh, Dr. M. Ganguly of Park Children Centre for Treatment and Research had participated as faculty.
6. 22 February 2007 : Second Monthly Clinical Meeting 2007 – This program was organized in the Department of Pediatrics of Dr B C Roy Memorial Hospital for Children. Total Four long cases and 4 short cases were presented by various faculty of that Institute. Total 8 cases were discussed by the teaching faculty of this Institute of which there were 3 neonatal cases and a series of surgical cases of Malrotation.
7. 25 February 2007 : Health Check up Camp - A health checkup camp was organized in collaboration with IAP Hooghly District Branch at Bandel Railway Station on 25th February 07, Sunday. The camp was attended by 84 street children. They are mostly child labours. Free medicines are also distributed amongst them. This programme will be continued on bimonthly basis with the help of a local NGO and in collaboration with IAP Hooghly District Branch.
The president of IAP West Bengal Dr Tapan Kr Ghosh had congratulated the local organizers, interface NGO and also IAP Hooghly Branch for their collaboration and great help to organize this social work.
March 2007
1. 3rd March 2007 : Dr Sisir Kr Bose Memorial CME on Clinical Radiology – Dr Sisir Kr Bose, the nephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who helped him in his Great Escape from the country, was the first Editor of the journal of IAP “Indian Pediatrics”. He was also the 2nd Director of Institute of Child Health Calcutta. He was not only an outstanding pediatrician but also a famous pediatric radiologist. Indian Academy of Pediatric and Institute of Child Health had jointly organized a CME on Clinical Radiology, which was held in the seminar room of ICH, Calcutta. This was attended by 95 pediatricians, mostly postgraduate students from different Institutions.

3. 18 March 2007 : President of IAP WB inaugurated
Annual CME at IAP Hooghly District Branch – IAP Hooghly Branch organized
their annual CME at Chinsurah on 18th March 2007. The State leaders of IAP
WB namely, Dr Tapan Kr Ghosh, President, Dr L K Mitra, Vice President and
Dr Debasis Biswas, Scientific Chairman of IAP West Bengal were present their
to grace the occasion.
Programme was participated by about 75 pediatricians and physicians. Dr Ritabrata
Kundu, Dr Arun Singh, Dr Srikhendi were the speakers.
4. 18th March 2007 : Workshop on "RTI Management – This workshop was organized by jointly by IAP West Bengal and IAP Darjeeling Branch in Hotel Conclave, Siliguri. The workshop started at 10am and ended at 2pm in pre-lunch session and post-lunch session started at 3pm and ended at 5pm. Dr.K.K.Ghosh magnificently and vividly narrated IAP guidelines on RTI Management in pre-lunch session and uses of devices in Asthma management in post-lunch session. 27 IAP members of this district were present and had taken the training on Asthma Management in the workshop.
5. 29 March 2007 : Third Monthly Clinical Meeting 2007 – This program was organized in Institute of Child Health Calcutta. 5 important cases on Pediatric Endocrinology were presented there. The house was full as ususal.
April 2007
1. 7th April 2007 : World Health Day – Dr Tapan Kr Ghosh, President of IAP West Bengal was invited by Kolkata TV (24 hours news channel in Bengali) to speak on various child related issues in an exclusive interview of 15 minutes where no advertisement break was given.
2. 8th April 2007 : CME on Pediatric Darmatology – An exclusive program on Pediatric Dermatology was organized in Indian Science Congress Association Hall of Kolkata. Renowned Pediatric Dermatologist Dr Sandipon Dhar, Dr Rajiv Malakar and Dr Raghubir Banerjee along with famous dermatologists Prof. Arijit Coondoo, Dr Kaushik Lahiri, Dr Subrata Malakar, Dr Sanjoy Ghosh, Dr Nilendu Sharma and others participated. 150 delegates had attended this program.
3. 17th April 2007 : Vaccine Update - An exclusive program on childhood immunization was organized in RKM Seva Pratisthan and Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences, Kolkata where pediatricians, obstetricians, nursing staffs and students were trained in practical aspects of vaccination with hands on training. Dr Tapan Kr Ghosh was the main resource persons with Dr Jaydeep Choudhury. Dr Tapobrata Chatterjee was the organizing secretary. Other speakers were Dr Raja Lahiri, Dr Amal Jyoti Dasgupta and others. This program was attended by 65 faculty of RKM Seva Pratisthan and 32 nursing staff and students of that Institute.
4. 21st April 2007 : Fourth Monthly Executive Board Meeting was held in IAP, WB Office. The brief minutes is attached. The registration of the IAP West Bengal Branch and getting a PAN number were discussed. It was expressed by the EB members that they are highly anxious about these matters and requested the office bearers to settle these legal matters very urgently.
5. 26th April 2007 : Fourth Monthly Clinical Meeting was held in the Seminar room of RKM Seva Pratishthan. 7 interesting cases were presented by the postgraduate students and basic teachers of this Institute. Nearly 80 members were present.
6. 29th April 2007 : CME on Polio Eradication and use of IPV in Asansol – IAP West Bengal and IAP Coalfield branch had jointly organized a CME program on Polio Eradication and use of IPV. Dr Debasis Biswas spoke on general aspects of paralytic poliomyelitis and history of polio vaccines and Dr Tapan Kr Ghosh had discussed the issue “Use of OPV vs IPV”. 42 members of Coalfield region of Bengal namely, Kulti, Ranigunj, Barakar, Asansol and Burnpur areas had participated in this evening CME held in the Asansol club.
May 2007
1. 1st May 2007 : World Asthma Day –
2 TV programs we re participated by IAP WB Executive member Dr Kali Kinkar
Ghosh, Pediatric Pulmonologist. The 1st program was held in DD Bangla 3.15
pm to 4.00 pm and another program was held in Kolkata TV between 8.30 pm and
09.00 pm. Both the programs were telecasted live.
Public Awareness program was also organized in Shopper Stop in Forum, Elgin
Road, Kolkata. Nearly 200 persons who came in this market had participated
in this program where Dr K K Ghosh explains everything regarding Asthma in
Children.
2. 1st May 2007 : National Workshop on Immunisation : Childhood and Beyond, this program was held in Hotel Hyatt Regency on 1st May 2007 and attended by 250 delegate. 23 National faculties and 6 local faculties had participated in this unique program. A book entitled “Controversies Answered : Monograph on Vaccinology” where 30 national and international experts gave answers in 23 chapters. The program was highly appreciated by all. IAP Infectious Disease Chapter and IAP West Bengal had organized this program jointly.
3. 4th May 2007 : Asthma Training Workshop –Venue : Aikatan, No. of Participants 107, Faculty : Dr K K Ghosh, Dr Subhasis Roy, Dr Arun Manglik, Dr Atul Gupta.
4. 26th May 2007 : Fifth Monthly Executive Board Meeting was held in IAP, WB Office. The brief minutes is attached.
5. 27th May 2007 : The Annual Day of IAP Durgapur District Branch was held in the Hotel Pritika, Bidhan Nagar, Durgapur. 30 delegates from Durgapur, Ranigunj, Asansol attended the scientific session. Dr.Tapan Kumar Ghosh, President IAP, West Bengal presided over the function and spoke on IAP Protocol on Management of Enteric Fever. Dr.Debasish Biswas, Pediatric cardiologist, Apollo Gleneagles Hospital Kolkata, spoke on Role of Pediatricians in Congenital Heart Diseases (with echo demonstration). This was followed by a musical programme and family dinner.
6. 31st May 2007 : Fifth Monthly Clinical Meeting was held in the Seminar room of Medical College, Kolkata. 5 important rare cases were presented by the postgraduates. A case of LIP, in a case of HIV infected child was awarded as the best case.
